Miami-Dade County – Miami, FL

Future Systems Inc. was selected to manufacture the prototype for the first air-conditioned transit shelter in the United States, a pilot program for the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works. The enclosed shelter, located at the Hialeah Metrorail Station, was unveiled in a formal ceremony with County and City officials in 2019.

Our scope involved the engineering and fabrication of a groundbreaking, fully enclosed shelter with a sliding door, air-conditioning, and interior seating for four, with standing room for eleven. The unit included integrated interior and exterior advertising display panels, designed to provide potential revenue for the transit agency. This successful $65,000 pilot unit, praised by officials and riders alike, was developed to test the feasibility of deploying up to 30 similar shelters to enhance comfort and attract ridership in high-demand areas.
