Congratulations to the PRTX Downtown Loop, recently named an Outstanding Project award winner in the Transportation Category at the Engineers’ Society of Western PA (ESWP) banquet. The project is transforming mobility in the heart of Pittsburgh, creating a more reliable connection between Downtown and Oakland’s medical and university district.
Future Systems’ Role
As part of the transformative University Project, Future Systems was awarded the contract to design, manufacture, and deliver state-of-the-art Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) infrastructure. Our work included modern, ADA-compliant stations, advanced passenger information systems, and durable, weather-resistant shelters, all designed to enhance the passenger experience and urban environment.
Project Highlights
Dedicated red bus lanes for faster, more reliable service
Five fully accessible stations with integrated safety and wayfinding features
Upgraded intersections and advanced signal technology
Innovative construction solutions in a dense urban environment, preserving critical infrastructure and downtown activity
The PRTX Downtown Loop is improving access to jobs, reducing congestion, and supporting a more sustainable, accessible public transport network.
We are proud to have partnered with Pittsburgh Regional Transit on this milestone project and to have contributed to an initiative that is reshaping urban mobility in Pittsburgh.
